SOLIDitech proudly sponsored an ‘Introduction to Coding’ workshop series hosted by the UCT Woman in Computer Science society (WiCS). Coding is one of the most highly sought after skills, even more so during the time of COVID-19.
As a business who uses software to solve the everyday business problems that ISPs in South Africa face, we are passionate about developing our next-generation of Software Engineers.
WiCS did a fantastic job. They focused the workshop series at UCT students who wanted to enhance their existing skill-set with some mad coding skills. Topics included introductory HTML concepts, tags, anchor tags and CSS.
We were also privileged to host an online session on ‘Why Everyone Should Understand Software and its Capabilities’. Our CEO, Manuel De Jesus delivered the session which focused on the value of learning to code. He emphasised how almost everything we do/touch today has got software behind it – from the simplest thing like checking your email to far more complicated automated operations software. Manuel also divulged his top 5 tips to improve your software literacy.
At the culmination of the workshop, all attendees were challenged to use their newly discovered skills to deliver a functioning website that specifically catered to a UCT student’s needs.
Congratulations not only to WiCS, whose dedication and teaching talents were evident in the website submissions, but also to our winners.
